The pick of a poor lot, Lanzini was constantly showing for the ball and looking to create something. He often struggled to do so, and should have set up Fernandes when through just before half time, but at least he tried to make something out of nothing.

Dimitri Payet – 5

His free-kick, which cannoned off the crossbar for Andy Carroll to score, was the highlight of a very forgettable night for the Frenchman, who couldn’t inspire the team as he has so often before.

Ashley Fletcher – 5

Worked hard but had no service and failed to have any impact up against an experienced Arsenal defence who handled him with ease throughout.
