After playing second-fiddle to Claudio Bravo at the beginning of last season before becoming the number one, Manchester City’s Willy Cabellero has left Pep Guardiola’s side to join Premier League champions Chelsea.

The Argentine’s contract with the Citizens expired at the end of June, meaning he was able to sign for the Blues on a free. Having operated as a second choice keeper for most of his time at City, Cabellero is set to continue his understudy role with Thibaut Courtois maintaining the number one jersey.

The 35-year-old brings vast experience to the Blues, with three years of Premier League football under his belt. The shot-stopper has also featured in the La Liga for Malaga before he joined Manchester City. He replaces Asmir Begovic at Stamford Bridge after the former Stoke City man joined Bournemouth earlier this month.

The Argentine spoke about his move to Chelsea’s official website, saying: “I am very happy to join the champions of England. I am looking forward to meeting the guys and helping the club achieve more success.”

After the announcement, Paddy Power were quick to mock the signing…

Yet some Chelsea fans were happy to see the Argentine come through the door…
