How Twitter reacted to Tom Cleverley’s Everton switch

Chris Linnell

The Premier League bosman-rule switches continued yesterday, as Tom Cleverley sealed a switch to Goodison Park with Everton. This brings to an end the Englishman’s 15-year association with Manchester United, with whom he was unable to secure a new deal.

The 25-year-old spent last season on loan at Villa Park and Tim Sherwood had been keen to secure the midfielder’s services on a permanent basis. However, Everton have agreed a five-year contract with the player and he will officially join the Merseyside outfit on 1 July once his United contract has expired.

On the same day that the deal was announced, Cleverley was also called into the England squad for Sunday’s friendly with the Republic of Ireland, replacing the injured Ryan Mason of Tottenham. Should he feature at any stage in this tie, he will earn his 14th international cap.

Here’s how Twitter reacted to Cleverley’s move to Merseyside.

The majority welcomed the former Manchester United man, wishing him luck in his future:

A few were less than impressed with Roberto Martinez’s acquisition:
