How Twitter reacted to Radamel Falcao's Manchester United departure
Ahead of the club’s 0-0 final day draw with Hull City on Sunday, Manchester United fans across the world discovered the fate of Radamel Falcao. The Red Devils hierachy have opting against paying a transfer fee of £43 million to make the Colombian’s season-long loan from Ligue 1 permanent, after he managed just four goals in 26 Premier League appearances.
The Monaco frontman had wanted to extend his stay at Manchester United but manager Louis van Gaal made it clear that his season wasn’t enough to justify his retention. The 28-year-old – who seemed to wave goodbye to the crowd at Old Trafford after last Sunday’s game against Arsenal – is not expected to look elsewhere in the Premier League.
Despite a disappointing spell throughout his first season in England, the Colombian international has become a fan favourite at Old Trafford. Indeed, for a player who has largely failed to live up to expectations this term, the reception he has received is truly outstanding.
Here’s how Twitter reacted to news of the Colombian international’s Manchester United exit:

Honestly very sad to hear about Falcao, wrong time and came to a tough league after a serious injury. Wish him the v best for the future.

Looks like Falcao is having a better send off than Gerrard

Well, if you recall, @FALCAO's four goals were crucial. One winner and two equalizers.
Won us a few points in the process. #MUFC

For some reason, even though Falcao hasn't played much or well, I have some attachment with him and I'm upset that he's leaving 😪

Others were slightly more pragmatic.
Falcao is like a few relationships I've had. You were excited & giddy when it began. Then as time went on you realised it wasn't right

The club have made the sensible decision in sending Falcao back to Monaco.
4 goals in 17 (12) apps = insignificant.

Transfers work both ways.. as a club we have also failed Falcao. Goalscorers need both game time and feeding when playing which didnt happen

And finally, here is Falcao’s touching message to the Old Trafford Faithful.
