Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho stole the headlines fas he scored his first ever international goal in Brazil’s 2-0 victory over South American rivals Mexico.
A penetrative run ended in a clinical finish as the 22-year-old opened his account on his return to action for the five-time world champions.
After an impressive individual season at club level, in which he scored five goals in 35 league appearances, before winning Liverpool’s Player of the Season accolade, this result proves the perfect icing on the cake for the Anfield favourite.
Coutinho has been included in his country’s squad for the finals, which will be held in Chile from June 11 until July 4, and after impressing against Mexico he will be hoping for further first-team action.
The Liverpool playmaker and his teammates have been drawn alongside Peru, Colombia and Venezuela in Group C, in a tournament they will be expected to win.
