Although it’s a deal that’s been nothing more than a formality since the end of the Premier League season, BBC Sport reported last night that Manchester United have signed Benfica’s Victor Lindelof.
The 22-year-old centre-back has become United’s most expensive defender ever after his £31million switch was officially announced yesterday, overtaking Rio Ferdinand’s fee of £29.1million from 2002.
Lindelof was an integral part of the Benfica side that won a Portuguese league and cup double last season, and has already earned 12 international caps after breaking into Sweden’s line-up.
His arrival shows a state of intent from United boss Jose Mourinho ahead of the new Premier League season, with his side looking to build on their Europa League success and challenge for the title.
Lindelof has since taken to social media for the first time as a Manchester United player…
And some United fans have already been praising their first summer arrival…
