How Twitter reacted as Swansea signed Las Palmas midfielder Roque Mesa
After gaining momentum in the past week it was announced today that Swansea City have secured the signing of midfielder Roque Mesa from Spanish side Las Palmas in a deal worth a reported £11m.
BBC Sport have reported that Mesa – who spent seven seasons at Las Palmas and helped them gain promotion to La Liga in 2015 – has joined up with the Swans on a four-year deal.
The 28-year-old Spaniard has been an influential part of Las Palmas’ efforts to stay in Spain’s top division since their promotion, and he made 35 appearances as they finished 14th last time around.
Speaking to Swansea’s official website, Mesa said:
“I’m very happy to be here. It’s a new challenge and a new adventure. The manager knows me, he knows how I play and what I can contribute to the team. I’ll try to make the team play.
“I know he’s like Ancelotti – he likes to play and wants to create a different Premier League team which likes to play.”
Mesa is known for his ability to provide solid defensive cover and dictate play in the middle of the park, narrowly missing out on ex-Barcelona man Xavi’s record of 125 passes in a single La Liga game.
Some Swansea fans took to social media and were delighted with their new man…

It's nice to be excited about the coming season. Just hope we can hold onto Sigurdsson & Llorente.
