How Twitter reacted as Bournemouth’s Tyrone Mings penned a new contract at the Vitality Stadium

There was some breaking news surfacing from the south coast on Wednesday afternoon as Bournemouth announced that Tyrone Mings has signed a new long-term contract at the club.

The 24-year-old versatile defender has been at the Vitality Stadium since making the switch from Championship side Ipswich in 2015, but he suffered a long-term knee injury whilst making his debut.

This kept him out of action for the rest of the season, only returning to first-team action during last January in an FA Cup tie with Millwall, but he soon became a regular starter for Eddie Howe’s team.

Speaking to Bournemouth’s club website about the deal, Mings said:

“It was an easy decision for me because I’m very settled down here. The first two years of my time wasn’t an easy one, with trying to get in the team and getting injured on my debut.

“But I came out of it the other end, had a bit of a run in the team last year and feel like I am in a good place now. I’m over the moon to be staying.”

The Bournemouth defender was involved in an infamous moment with Manchester United’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic last season, being banned by the FA for five matches for an alleged stamp on the Swede.

The Cherries took to social media to announce the news…

And Bournemouth fans were generally pleased with the news…

With some having high expectations for the future…

Others were less convinced…

And were more focused on Bournemouth breaking their Premier League duck this weekend…

Whilst one eagle-eyed fan is relishing the return of Ibrahimovic…

What do you think Bournemouth fans? Is Mings a first-team player? Let us know below.
