Tottenham Hotspur journalist Alasdair Gold has revealed how Spurs coaches reacted to the incident between Hugo Lloris and Newcastle United star Callum Wilson on Sunday.

Antonio Conte’s side went into the game against the Magpies hoping to bounce back after their defeat against Manchester United. Sadly, they suffered another loss, but this time, there was a bit of controversy.

How Tottenham coaches reacted to incident between Lloris and Wilson

Spurs were once again very poor on Sunday. Newcastle completely deserved to win the game, but many Tottenham fans will argue that the Magpies’ opening goal shouldn’t have stood.

Lloris came out to intercept a long ball and he chested it down. Wilson was right in front of him and the two collided. The Tottenham skipper went to ground, hoping for a free kick, but the referee decided against it.

Wilson picked up the ball and expertly slotted it in the back of the net. That set Newcastle on their way, and Tottenham fans were far from happy with the referee’s decision.

Gold has revealed that Spurs coaches were furious too.

The journalist said in a video on his YouTube channel: “Conte came out and did his usual, ‘I will not comment on referees’ – the fact he was offering up the words, ‘I won’t comment on referees’ before even being asked about referees on most occasions, suggested that he was very much saying it’s about the referee.

“And from what I understand behind the scenes, the coaching staff were raging at it.

“When they saw the replays they were raging, because they felt that Wilson had deliberately looked up at Lloris, seen him coming, and kind of flung out that arm to make sure he couldn’t get around him. So a lot of anger, from what I understand.”

The debate over the goal will go on, but Newcastle United fans will not care.

As for Tottenham, as frustrating as that incident was, they should look at their own performance rather than the referee’s decision in that game.

Spurs have been picking up good results this season, but it has to be said that they’ve been really poor more often than not. That’s not sustainable at all, and Conte has to change something to bring the best out of his side.

Lloris will hate to watch that incident back, but he needs to pick himself up very quickly and lead his side back to winning ways again.
