Eric Dier – The English international played well and was solid defensively, but he switched off after Tottenham’s third and was to blame for Everton getting a second goal. He put in an excellent tackle in the first half to prevent Romelu Lukaku getting in on goal, while his distribution was effective throughout. 5

Toby Alderweireld – It was another good performance from the Belgian international, who managed to recover from injury in time to play. Tottenham were excellent defensively for the most part and he played his part in the home victory. 6

Jan Vertonghen – He was arguably the best defender on the pitch for the first 80 minutes, winning the ball back well and starting attacks from deep. The Belgian international always looked to step forward with the ball and made several surges forward during the match. However, he was pushed aside too easily by his compatriot Romelu Lukaku and that mistake let the visitors back into the game. 6

Kyle Walker – It was a quieter performance from the right wing back this afternoon, but he remained a threat during the match. His pace is a huge weapon and Tottenham are deploying it correctly in the 3-4-3 formation. Defensively, he was solid as Leighton Baines struggled to get into the game for Everton. 6
