Victor Wanyama – Took it upon himself to deal with the threat of Negredo whenever Middlesbrough looked to break past the half-way line, and more often than not came out on top with the ball. Pressed high when the visitors attacked too, giving away very little. 7.

Moussa Dembele – Played much further up the pitch on Saturday than he’s accustomed to and was superb throughout. Moved the ball around quickly as Spurs tried to break down a tough defence, and had more touches than anyone in the final third. 9.

Heung-Ming Son – Fits in well into Tottenham’s midfield attacking trio in terms of build-up play, but still seems to be lacking the composure when it really matters in front of goal. Rushed a shot when well-placed towards the end of the first-half, but his trickery in the box earnt the penalty. 7.

Christian Eriksen – Found himself in space a fair amount in a fast-paced game, and once again dictated Tottenham’s attacking tempo. Showed his full passing range with incisive through-balls and searching deliveries, and forced Valdes into numerous smart stops. 8.

Dele Alli – Continued his recent purple patch of form on Saturday evening, looking sharp from the beginning and finding pockets of space in behind Middlesbrough defence. Showed a different side to his play today, thinking carefully both on and off the ball. 7.
