Michael Carrick – It wasn’t his best performance as he struggled with the Liverpool press. He did okay, but couldn’t control the pace of the game as he normally does. It was probably the right call to withdraw him at half-time. 5
Ander Herrera – The Spaniard delivered yet another good performance in the midfield with some crucial ball recoveries, while he played several probing forward passes. He is one of the most important players in this Manchester United side and competed well against an energetic Liverpool midfield. 8
Paul Pogba – After a good start with some positive passes, Pogba had an evening to forget. He had an awful time trying to mark Dejan Lovren from set pieces and ended up conceding the penalty for the Liverpool goal. After that he seemed to lose his head and struggled to get back into the game. He will believe that he should have scored in the first half as well. 4
Henrikh Mkhitaryan – He has been excellent in recent weeks and he caused Liverpool problems with his direct running, but his end product wasn’t great. The former Dortmund winger missed a guilt edged chance in the first half and sometimes put too much on his crosses into the area. 6
