Jay Rodriguez – With Liverpool having to press further up the field in search of a result, he did well to sit on the shoulder of Klopp’s back-line and make intelligent runs in behind. Most of Southampton’s first-half chances fell to his teammates and could have been a different result had they fallen to him, and he can count himself unlucky to be replaced by Long at half-time. 6.
Shane Long – Was brought on by Puel after 45 minutes to inject some pace into Southampton’s counter-attacks, and put the icing on the cake with a superb driven finish to seal the Saints’ EFL Cup final berth. Lent himself well to some last-ditch defending too, and gave his customary everything. 6.
Pierre-Emile Hojberg – Couldn’t quite match the impact that Ward-Prowse had in the middle of the park, but he played his part well in keeping Liverpool at bay. Still waiting to have that performance that makes Puel and Southampton supporters sit up and take note. 6.
Josh Sims – Came on fairly late in the match for Redmond as Southampton looked to tighten up their defence, and despite a few nervy touches and slips, he did superbly to carry the ball almost 70-yards to set up Long for the tie-clinching goal. Covered ground extremely well in his cameo. 7.
