How Southampton’s players rated during their second-leg victory over Liverpool

James Ward-Prowse – Arguably went under the radar slightly whilst on the pitch but his presence and discipline in the Southampton midfield was sorely missed once he was forced off early into the second period. Caused threats from set-pieces with his delivery. 7.

Oriel Romeu – Slotted in well to his side’s defensive efforts for the whole 90 minutes, and stepped up well in midfield to re-find some sort of shape after Ward-Prowse had to be taken off. Started many of Southampton’s counter-attacks and supported his defence well. 7.

Steven Davis – Missed a glorious chance during the first-half to double Southampton’s advantage after he lashed over the bar, but other than that he was his reliable best. Has been a credible servant at St Mary’s over recent years and showed that once again at Anfield. Worked tirelessly. 7.

Dusan Tadic – Posed much more of an attacking threat earlier in the match, yet faded as it went on. Hasn’t impressed as much as he would have wanted in Puel’s starting line-up this season and wasted a glaring chance to double Southampton’s advantage in the first-half, thwarted by Karius. 6.

Nathan Redmond – Had an outstanding first-half on Wednesday evening, showing his blistering turn of pace twice when he had poor Alexander-Arnold looking both left and right. Switched channels frequently to give Liverpool’s defence a headache, and looked a constant threat. Should have left Anfield with two assists but for the wasteful finishing of Tadic and Davis. 8.
