Cedric Soares – For most of the match he had to be wary of the threat of Milner’s overlapping and Lallana’s darting runs, and he did very, very well considering the circumstances. Allowed Milner too much space at times to get crosses in, but on the whole had a good game. 7.
Maya Yoshida – Arguably had his best ever match in a Southampton shirt during the second-leg, leading by example from the back. Faced attack after attack and didn’t back down, and it’ll be a miracle if his head doesn’t hurt in the morning after dealing with countless crosses. Superb. 8.
Jack Stephens – What a way to announce yourself as a Southampton player. With all of the Virgil van Dijk transfer speculation, he staked his claim for a regular first-team spot with a performance full of determination and grit on Wednesday night. Solid and flawless throughout, making clearance after clearance from opposition attacks, and made a sensational sliding challenge to deny Origi late on. 9.
Ryan Bertrand – Was perhaps more subdued in an attacking sense than he would have liked, but he managed the double threat of Firmino and Alexander-Arnold well on his left-flank. Drifted inside at times and covered for his centre-backs extremely well – a good battling performance. 7.
