How some Tottenham insiders really feel about only qualifying for the Europa League this season

Tottenham Hotspur are having a good first season under Ange Postecoglou but it remains to be seen whether it will be Champions League or Europa League football next term.

Man City and Arsenal’s exits in the last eight this week mean that the fifth place spot in the Premier League is now likely to only see a Europa League spot won.

For Tottenham, that represents a blow in their pursuit of Champions League football, albeit fourth spot is still in their own hands as it stands.

Of course, Daniel Levy will be desperate to see Spurs make the Champions League. And while Ange Postecoglou plays down the importance of league position, he will know the benefits it brings.

And according to a report from The Athletic, there are some split feelings behind the scenes when it comes to Tottenham’s European push.

What Tottenham insiders feel about the Europa League and Champions League

According to a the report from The Athletic, there are mixed views in the boardroom when it comes to what is best for Spurs right now.

“Internally, some at Spurs acknowledge that a year in the Europa League could have some benefits. Generally, though, there is a desire at Tottenham for the group to test themselves at the highest level. Some find it odd that anyone connected with the club wouldn’t want Spurs to be competing against the best,” the report states.

Top four is best for Tottenham

Ange Postecoglou can say what he wants to the media and talk about improving on the training pitch day by day, but the fact remains that top four is what the club wants and needs.

That, in turn, benefits Ange as he will then be backed in the market that bit more and more funds made available for the signings he wants.

Tottenham have worked for years to ensure they’re in and around the Champions League places.

This season, with the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United nowhere near, it would feel like a big miss for Spurs if they lose out to Aston Villa.

Tottenham, then, have got to finish the season strongly and ensure there’s no room for complaint by the higher ups.
