How Nottingham Forest feel about Elliot Anderson as Liverpool and Newcastle circle

TBR Football can reveal that Nottingham Forest have issued a hands-off warning to clubs who are sniffing around Elliot Anderson.

Anderson has excelled since arriving at the City Ground after they took advantage of Newcastle United’s PSR situation in 2024.

Forest paid over £30m for Anderson, and he has more than lived up to that fee. The 22-year-old is now a full England international after playing a starring role in the recent World Cup qualifiers and is firmly on target to make the squad for 2026.

However, such has been his form that he is naturally being linked with rival clubs. Sources have informed TBR Football that he is on Manchester United’s radar, whilst we understand that Liverpool and Tottenham have also been keeping tabs on his progress.

Indeed, we are told that his former club, Newcastle, would “love” the chance to bring him back home to Tyneside. That said, we can confirm that Nottingham Forest have little intention of letting him go anytime soon.

Exclusive: Nottingham Forest to thwart Elliot Anderson interest

TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey has revealed that boss Ange Postecoglou wants Anderson to be an integral component of his Forest side for years to come.

Bailey confirms: “Anderson has been top class for Forest, and they are aware of the interest is emerging.

“But I am told that Forest have no intention of entertaining any interest in him, and with Ange Postecoglou arriving – they want him to be a cornerstone to his team going forward.”

Eddie Howe never wanted to lose Anderson in the summer of 2024, but the Magpies had little choice but to sanction the sale with the impending PSR deadline looming over St James’ Park.

Newcastle were one of several clubs, including Forest, who were forced into big-money sales ahead of the 1 June deadline last summer, with goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos leaving the City Ground for the North East.

Now, Anderson is widely regarded as one of England’s brightest prospects, and his performances for club and country at the start of the season have attracted interest across the Premier League.

While Forest sanctioned the big-money departure of Anthony Elanga, again to Newcastle, to ease their PSR concerns this summer, it appears Evangelos Marinakis is in a much stronger position to thwart advances for one of his star players this time around.

Liverpool want to sign a defensive midfielder

Bailey recently revealed to TBR Football that Liverpool plan to sign a defensive midfielder in the upcoming transfer windows.

Ryan Gravenberch has emerged as one of the best in the number six position in world football, but Arne Slot feels he is lacking top-quality depth in the position.

Brighton & Hove Albion star Carlos Baleba is believed to be high on the shortlist, but the Premier League champions could very well turn their interest to Anderson.

This would represent a significant blow for Forest, as the prospect of competing for trophies, including the Champions League, could prove too tempting for Anderson to turn down. Postecoglou understands that the 22-year-old will be crucial to his future success, and securing his long-term future will be his utmost priority.
