The 2025/26 edition of the Champions League is here, and for plenty of clubs, it’s an opportunity to test themselves against the best in Europe.

While there is no doubt that teams will relish the chance to take on some of the world’s greatest, there are other benefits that come with featuring in the competition.

The Champions League is the richest competition in Europe, offering teams the opportunity to earn some big sums of money.

Qualifying for it comes with boosts to revenue, with at least four extra home matchdays and broadcasting rights thrown into the mix.

However, there is also prize money up for grabs, adding more money for each win and each round passed.

With six Premier League teams involved over 2025/26, there will be plenty of chances for English teams to make themselves even richer.

Champions League league phase prize money 2025/26

This season marks the second edition of the new Champions League format, which involves a league table rather than groups.

It’ll be the first time that Newcastle, Chelsea and Tottenham will experience the new format for themselves.

League phase qualification

By simply qualifying for the league phase of the Champions League, teams are awarded £16 million.

League phase draw

If two teams draw in the league phase of the competition, then they earn roughly £606,000 for the game.

League phase win

A win in the league phase will reward teams with £1.8 million in prize money.

How much money teams earn for qualifying in the Champions League’s league phase

Qualification in the league phase is split between the top eight and ninth to 24th in the table.

The top eight will earn automatic qualification to the round of 16, while the remaining 16 teams must play an extra knockout round to earn passage to that round.

Manchester City were dumped out of the competition in the round of 16 last season, losing to Real Madrid, showing how important it is to secure a top-eight finish.

Top eight finish

A top-eight finish secures teams roughly £1.7 million up front, but they also receive payments for reaching the round of 16

Knockout round qualification

Finishing in the remaining qualification spaces nets teams just under £1 million, while they must play to earn their place in the round of 16.

Champions League Round of 16 qualification prize money

The round of 16 is where the prize money really starts to ramp up, as clubs get closer to the final goal of lifting the Champions League.

This was the round last season where Liverpool fell to defeat against PSG, with Arne Slot looking to push his team on further this time.

Qualification to the round of 16 will earn teams roughly £9.5 million.

Champions League quarter-final prize money

Heading into the final eight of the competition, teams that book themselves a place in the Champions League quarter finals will be able to pocket around £10.8 million.

Semi-final prize money for the Champions League

Arsenal reached last season’s semi-final in the Champions League, coming so close to another final appearance, but losing out to PSG.

For making this season’s semi-final, teams will earn just shy of £13 million, bolstering their revenue streams yet again.

How much do the Champions League finalists earn in prize money

Both teams that make the final of the Champions League will pick up £16 million for reaching the grand stage.

The 2025/26 season’s final will be held in Budapest, at the Puskas Arena.

The winners of the final will land an additional £5.6 million, along with the prestige of lifting the famous trophy at the end.
