How Micky van de Ven feels about Roberto De Zerbi as Tottenham face potential relegation to the Championship

Tottenham are in for the biggest weekend of their lives as their Premier League future hangs by a thread.

Spurs need a win or to match the result of West Ham to stay up, while the Hammers know if they can beat Leeds and Everton do them a favour in North London, then it is Spurs who will drop.

The idea of Spurs dropping down into the Championship is almost unthinkable given the money and talent within this squad right now.

One of the better players, of course, has been Micky van de Ven. The Dutchman is a Premier League player and has interest elsewhere if Spurs do drop.

But in terms of working with the new boss Roberto De Zerbi, it appears things are rosy.

Micky van de Ven loves working with Roberto De Zerbi but fears remain

With any big club going down, there is always a huge fear and reality of losing your best players.

Clearly, Van de Ven is one of those for Tottenham and if they did go down, he would surely get a move.

However, according to journalist Ben Jacobs, things are not clear cut.

“Van de Ven is only focused on trying to keep Tottenham up at this stage,” Jacobs said.

“From what I gather, he really enjoys playing under Roberto De Zerbi, but he’s not necessarily the kind of player that wants to drop into the championship, even if he likes the manager.”

With Van de Ven clearly one of Tottenham’s better players, there won’t be a Spurs fan out there who believes the club can keep him if they’re relegated.

Still, the idea of Van de Ven simply being focussed on the here and now is what Spurs fans want to hear.

If Spurs do manage to stay up, then the relationship with De Zerbi will be crucial in terms of players sticking around for next season.

Obviously, Van de Ven likes what he’s seen so far.

That, then, makes it only even more crucial that the club remains in the Premier League.
