How Manchester United’s players reacted after their first leg win over Hull

Manchester United players have been reacting on Twitter after they eased to a first-leg advantage in the EFL Cup against a weakened Hull side at Old Trafford last night.

After having the majority of the possession and attacking threat in the first half with no end product, Jose Mourinho’s side were lucky to not go behind after Adama Diomande struck the post.

United, however, finally made the pressure tell early in the second half though when Juan Mata gambled on a Henrikh Mkhitaryan header across the box to tap into an empty net – despite being in an offside position.

Mourinho brought on Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard as he looked to put the tie to bed before the return leg in fifteen days’ time, but it was in fact his third substitution that gave United their deserved advantage when Marouane Fellaini looped his header over Jakupovic three minutes from the end.

Mata excelled once again in the United midfield, looking the most likely to create a goal during his time on the pitch, and he was the first to take to Twitter to celebrate the victory.

Mata wasn’t the only player on the Old Trafford pitch to praise United’s performance last night either, with David de Gea and Matteo Darmian also posting on social media about United’s comfortable victory.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan and United’s second goal-scorer Fellani mentioned United’s current “streak”, after last night’s victory saw them record their ninth consecutive victory in all competitions – their best run of wins since 2009 – and extend their unbeaten run to 15 matches.

Antonio Valencia and Ander Herrera took a slightly different approach post-match though, with Valencia in particular focusing straight on the huge game in the Premier League this weekend when Liverpool travel to Old Trafford.

Will Jose Mourinho’s side beat Liverpool on Sunday? Or will their winning streak stop at nine?
