How Manchester United’s players rated in FA Cup defeat to Chelsea

Phil Jones – 5

Lucky not to be booked for one of his many fouls on Eden Hazard in the first half, Jones couldn’t handle the pace and speed of Chelsea’s movement and was left looking flabbergasted when he couldn’t put a foot out to concede a foul rather than let play pass him by. Improved when he had more protection in and around him second half.

Chris Smalling – 7

Strong and physical at the heart of defence, Smalling could do little more to help his side as they fought to keep things tight at the back. He cannot be blamed for the goal conceded and controlled the defence well even with a number of tactical changes.

Marcos Rojo – 7

Handled the physical threat of Diego Costa well even when things did get heated between the two of them in the second half, diving in with a superb tackle. Despite that distraction, he was calm and composed and showed the kind of experience that has previously been lacking.
