Matteo Darmian – Had a bit of a shaky start to the match as West Ham imposed themselves well in attack, but asserted himself well after the red card. Still unsure as to whether he fits the United mould in defence, and is unlikely to be preferred to Luke Shaw once he regains fitness. 6.
Marcos Rojo – Quickly becoming the reliable defender that United had hoped for when they signed him from Sporting Lisbon three years ago. Kept his discipline in a feisty first half, and ensured that Carroll posed no aerial threat once he came on. 7.
Phil Jones – Returned to the side and, for the most part, had a solid game at centre-back. Stepped out too fast to allow Antonio a one-on-one with De Gea, and was involved with the controversial talking point of the match when over-reacting to Feghouli’s challenge. 6.
Antonio Valencia – Continues his development as a right-back, which is a position he is starting to make his own at Old Trafford. Provided his usual bombing runs down the right-flank and nearly scored his first United goal since January 2014 but somehow missed from a yard out. 6.
