How Manchester United rated on a frustrating afternoon against Bournemouth

Juan Mata – Had a fairly quiet match for Jose Mourinho’s side despite all of United’s possession in the midfield, playing second-fiddle to Martial for most of the game. Carried the ball well into the final third as the home side grew desperate to find a winner, but to no avail. 6.

Anthony Martial – His constant change of pace and mazy runs gave him a lot of joy at Old Trafford, twice shrugging off defenders to force Boruc into strong stops. Worked tirelessly down the left-hand side of the field to try and find an opening, but Bournemouth’s defensive numbers held out. 7.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic – After his EFL Cup winning exploits last weekend, the Swede uncharacteristically missed two glorious early chances to open the scoring against Bournemouth and was guilty of sloppy touches at times. Undeniably very lucky to remain on the pitch after a leading elbow on Mings before half-time, and his afternoon was summed up when his second-half penalty was saved. 5.

Marcus Rashford – Came on to inject some pace into United’s efforts to find a winner, and immediately made a nuisance of himself around the penalty area. Often tried to do too much on his own and couldn’t find the important late breakthrough. 6.

Marouane Fellaini – Offered United a different attacking dimension with his second-half introduction, but never really found himself in the box to capitalise on his height. 5.

Jesse Lingard – Scorer in the EFL Cup final last weekend, he failed to make an impact up against a stubborn and disciplined Bournemouth back-line. 5.
