Michael Carrick – Left the defence uncharacteristically unprotected for Blackburn’s opener, but composed himself well on the game as it went on. Displayed his array of passing as United searched for a late winner and led his side by example with strong, fair tackling in midfield. 7.
Ander Herrera – Yet again underlined his importance to this Manchester United side with a vital contribution in the middle of the park. Ventured forward more due to having Carrick alongside him, and was arguably United’s best player at Ewood Park both attacking and defending. 9.
Jesse Lingard – Scorer of United’s FA Cup winner last season, Lingard returned to the side and showed a willingness and desire to run in behind Blackburn’s defence throughout. Gave the hosts a few problems with his pace early on, but failed to supply a cutting edge in front of goal. 7.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan – Found it hard to be his usual fluent self in a crowded midfield, but showed excellent vision to find Rashford for United’s equaliser with an exquisite outside of the boot pass. Flashed a shot wide as he looked for a goal of his own, and worked tirelessly all game. 7.
Anthony Martial – Found it harder to have as much of an impact as recent matches up against a stubborn Blackburn defence. Made a few darting runs and incisive passes, but couldn’t find the cutting edge that United needed to force themselves ahead in the tie. 6.
