Phil Jones – He was okay and dominated in the air, but his mobility was limited by the state of the pitch. During the match, his distribution wasn’t great. He often looked to go long, but it wasn’t as effective as he would have liked. 5
Chris Smalling – The England international was the most impressive of the three centre backs. He completed three tackles, one interception, and eight clearances. Smalling ensured that his side left Russia on level terms in the tie. 7
Marcos Rojo – Jose Mourinho has reinvented the defender and he is now one of the most consistent players in the squad. He did everything that came his way with little fuss and the aggressive side to his game is being channelled in the correct way. 6
Ashley Young – Although he hasn’t featured a lot under Mourinho, he was impressive against FC Rostov, completing four dribbles during the match. United looked to play more in wide areas and Young impressed on the ball. That said, his final ball wasn’t the best. 6
