Picked up yet another needless yellow card with some reckless tackling, but worked well in the back three formation and didn’t allow Boro to get in behind or around him. Becoming more of a presence.

Chris Smalling – 6

Could be criticised for his role in Middlesbrough’s goal in the 78th minute to give them a chance of securing something from the game, but he kept Alvaro Negredo quiet and was composed on the ball.

Eric Bailly – 7

Added balance which was needed at times, drifting wide to the right to support Antonio Valencia when he bombed down the wing. Strong in the tackle, he was the pick of the back three on his return.
