Daley Blind – Still looks a weak link in this Manchester United side whenever he plays, and fortunately for him Saint Etienne rarely tested the visitor’s back four. Nearly found Ibrahimovic in the area on a strong run forward, but lacked the cutting edge with his final pass. 6.
Eric Bailly – Commanded his back-line and led by example in a solid first-half performance for the Ivorian. Made a key-block as Saint Etienne looked to salvage something from the tie, but two quick-fire yellow cards saw him needlessly get sent off. Could prove to be a costly miss in the last-16. 6.
Chris Smalling – Had a busier second-half after Bailly’s red-card, and stood firm in the face of a spirited Saint Etienne side. Reduced the hosts to long-range shots for the majority of the match, and maintained United’s discipline until the final whistle despite their huge aggregate lead. 8.
Ashley Young – Played in successive games for the first time this season, and he put in a very confident performance in the United defence. Looked composed when called upon defensively whilst he also fizzed a superb ball across the face when venturing in attack. 7.
