Manchester United closed the gap on fifth-placed Liverpool to just one point after coasting to victory over relegation-threatened Leicester City at the King Power Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

After an opening 40 minutes of no real chances, Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s solo effort and Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s low finish turned the match on its head to give United a two-goal lead at the break.

Almost immediately after the restart, Jose Mourinho’s side all-but sealed the victory when Juan Mata beat the offside trap to slot home at the near post – condemning Leicester to their fourth straight defeat.

Claudio Ranieri’s side now sit one point above the relegation spots and have become the first side in 31 years to not score in the opening five games of a calendar year.
