How Manchester City’s players rated in their embarrassing defeat to Everton

Pablo Zabaleta – The Argentine worked hard and put a shift in for his side, but it was clear that he struggled in the midfield area. He was coming up against an experienced Gareth Barry and a youthful Tom Davies, with Everton dominating the middle of the park. Zabaleta tried to make some positive runs, but that caused him to be caught out of position at times. 4

Yaya Toure – He has been good since his return, but he doesn’t have the legs to play in a two-man midfield, especially when the other player is an ageing full back. The Ivorian could have done more to prevent the first goal and didn’t do much when his side was in possession. 4

Raheem Sterling – After an enthusiastic start, Sterling quickly faded with his lack of end product telling. He had a great opportunity to score in the first half after getting in behind the defence, but he took an extra touch when he perhaps shouldn’t. It can be argued that he could have been awarded a penalty, but he should have been more clinical. 5

Kevin de Bruyne – The Belgian was without doubt City’s best player and it was harsh that he was on the wrong end of an embarrassing signing. He showed his impressive range of passing and created several promising openings for his side, but his team-mates couldn’t make the most of them. 7
