How Manchester City’s players rated in humiliating defeat to Chelsea

Ilkay Gundogan – 6

Struggled to have the kind of influence that he has in other games in recent weeks. Seemed to have more defensive responsibilities and was unable to offer sufficient protection to the back three or help drive the team forward.

Fernandinho – 5

Physical in nature and put his stamp on the game (and Eden Hazard’s ankle) early on. Should have offered more protection to his defence who were frequently caught out. Seemingly sent off for needless scenes of violence in the final moments.

Jesus Navas – 7

A quality cross led to Gary Cahill deflecting the ball into his own net as he really caused Marcos Alonso problems throughout. Struggled at times defensively but did well overall.

David Silva – 6

Quiet and tried to influence the transition into attack but was quickly pressed, his usual creativity was lacking and he seemed to be playing in a deeper role.

Leroy Sane – 6

Struggled to deal with the affed defensive responsibilities that Guardiola expected of him. Couldn’t show his threat going forward and was anonymous.

Kevin De Bruyne – 7

Creative and dangerous throughout, his performance will be remembered for the miss which could have given his team a two goal lead only for him to smack it against the crossbar when it seemed easier to score. That goal would have produced a hugely different result.
