Tottenham made one of the most noteworthy moves within the Premier League on deadline day as they signed Mathys Tel on loan from Bayern Munich with an option to buy.
Tel made a huge U-turn late in the transfer window as he decided to join Tottenham just days after rejecting a move to Spurs.
Tottenham had been rejected by a number of key targets in the summer already as Randal Kolo Muani joined Juventus instead of Tottenham and Fikayo Tomori rejected a move to Spurs.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Tom Barclay has been discussing Tel’s arrival at Tottenham and he says that the striker could sign a six-year contract with Tottenham if this deal does become permanent at the end of the season.

Mathys Tel could sign six-year Tottenham deal
Barclay shared what he knows about Tel’s arrival.
The journalist says that Tel will cost £45m if Spurs want to sign him permanently at the end of the season, while his contract length could be six years if he decides to stay on at Spurs.
“It looked like at one point that it would be a straight loan, but no, Spurs managed to negotiate an option to sign him permanently next summer to the tune of about £45, which is €55m with the option to sign a six-year contract if he does sign at that point. Which is great news for Spurs, if he has a good half a season and enjoys his time at Tottenham then it could be a really clever signing,” Barclay said.
Tottenham’s longest contracts
Tottenham could tie Tel down until 2031 if the Frenchman is signed permanently at the end of the season.
That should secure Tel’s serviced into the prime of his career, and, interestingly, it would make the striker the longest-contracted player at Tottenham should this deal proceed.
| Longest contracted players at Tottenham | Contract expiry date |
| Antonin Kinsky | 2030 |
| Destiny Udogie | 2029 |
| Pape Sarr | 2029 |
| Dominic Solanke | 2029 |
| Yang Min-Hyeok | 2029 |
| Archie Gray | 2029 |
| Radu Dragusin | 2029 |
Spurs have a solid core of players contracted until the end of the decade, and Tel could well grow alongside players like Archie Gray and Destiny Udogie as Spurs look to reclaim their place towards the top of the Premier League.
Of course, the next six months will ultimately decide whether or not Spurs want to spend £45m on signing Tel, but if the striker does stay, he will be in it for the long haul at Tottenham.
