Liverpool’s poor run of form in 2017 continued as they lost to Southampton in the EFL Cup at Anfield, seeing them crash out of the competition they won back in 2012.
Despite dominating possession, Southampton created far more clear-cut chances during the encounter and were unlucky not to extend their lead after spurning two good early opportunities.
Jurgen Klopp’s side pushed as the match went on, coming close through Emre Can’s shot and Daniel Sturridge’s two flicked efforts, but Shane Long’s injury-time effort sealed Liverpool’s cup exit.
The Boot Room have rated Klopp’s side during their disappointing evening at Anfield.
Lloris Karius – After well-documented criticism after certain performances this season, he had a very good game and kept his side in the tie – certainly in the first-half. Saved extremely well from Tadic’s close-range shot when he should have scored, and commanded his area well throughout. Not a whole lot he could have done with Long’s thumping late-winner. 7.
