Liverpool played out a goalless draw with Southampton for the second time in the Premier League this season.
This marked the fourth meeting between the two clubs this season and the Reds have failed to score in any of them.
They have dropped points for the third successive match at Anfield and their top four hopes are now out of their hands.
Here are how their players rated on Sunday…
Simon Mignolet – It was a quiet day for the goalkeeper as Southampton didn’t manage to get a single shot on target. He did everything that was required of him and earned another clean sheet. 6
Nathaniel Clyne – The right-back delivered a solid defensive performance, but his distribution in attack wasn’t at its best. Although he made one key pass during the match, he did make the wrong decision on a few occasions and could have done more in possession. 5
Joel Matip – He is quickly emerging as the best defender on Liverpool’s books and he was dominant at the back on Sunday. The 25-year-old made four tackles and restricted Southampton to few chances during the match. 7
Dejan Lovren – The Croatian helped his side to a clean sheet against his former club and was good in possession, completing 92% of his passes. Southampton didn’t offer much in attack, but what Lovren had to do, he completed with comfort. 6
James Milner – He ended the match as the villain of the piece after missing a penalty midway through the second half. The 31-year-old had a perfect record from the spot before Sunday, but his effort was well saved by Fraser Forster. 4
Lucas Leiva – After some good performances, Lucas struggled to impact the game at Anfield. He got on the ball a lot, but his passing wasn’t incisive and slowed down the Reds’ attacks. He dominated in the air with four successful aerial duels and competed well out of possession. However, more was needed. 5
Emre Can – The German is quickly emerging as a key player in the midfield and his work rate was excellent again. He completed two key passes and attempted three shots, but he couldn’t help his team to another three points. 6
Gini Wijnaldum – The Dutchman was good on Sunday and caused problems with his dribbling ability. He completed two dribbles and one key pass. Throughout the match, his movement was impressive, but he should have been more positive at times. Wijnaldum carries a huge goal threat and could have offered more in attack on Sunday. 6
Roberto Firmino – Although his effort can’t be criticised, Firmino couldn’t deliver a goal on Sunday. He caused problems with three successful dribbles, but he was too selfish at times. The Brazilian was dispossessed on five occasions, which was more than any other player on the pitch. 4
Divock Origi – The Belgian international wasn’t good on Sunday and struggled to get into the game. As a striker, it is disappointing that he didn’t get a single shot in on goal. He only had 21 touches of the ball and was dispossessed twice. It was an afternoon to forget for the 22-year-old. 3
Philippe Coutinho – Like the rest of the frontline, Coutinho will be disappointed with his contribution as his side once again failed to score against Southampton. He showed flashes of his ability, but he didn’t do enough to break down a determined opposition defence. 5
Adam Lallana – The England international came off the bench and Liverpool looked better with him on the pitch. However, he didn’t manage to force a winning goal. 6
Daniel Sturridge – He hasn’t had a great season, but he will be happy with his cameo display. The 27-year-old completed two dribbles and three key passes, which was more than any other Liverpool player. He did a lot more than Origi in a shorter length of time on the pitch. 7
Marko Grujic – The midfielder didn’t have enough time to earn a rating. N/A
