Chelsea are beginning to accelerate their transfer business, with Tieumoue Bakayoko set to sign for the club after arriving in London for a medical, according to The Sun, and Alex Sandro closing in on a world record transfer to Stamford Bridge.
Now, the Mirror report that Antonio Conte is also keen on bringing Sevilla winger Vitolo to the club this summer. The Italian coach wants to add quality and competition to his squad to ensure that the fire doesn’t burn out after winning the title, as it will be more difficult to retain the championship.
If they were to bring the Spanish international to West London, it could take a fee of £35 million, as this would meet the release clause in his current contract.
Why do Chelsea want to sign him?
Conte knows that he has the best side in the Premier League at the moment after it was his team that won the league title last season. However, it is important to build from a position of strength as they will know be the ones that the rest of the division are targeting.

Despite their success during the last 12 months, Chelsea’s squad isn’t well suited to the 3-4-3 formation, as they don’t have depth across the pitch. They need to address that and the signing of a winger is important to that.
Eden Hazard will miss the first few weeks of the season and they need to bring somebody in to cover for that. In addition, they will need to rotate more often with the added stress of Champions League football. As a naturally right-footed player, is a dangerous option to have on the left as he can cut inside and release powerful shots towards goal. He is a constant threat in the final third and he is an intelligent reader of the game, which makes him a good fit for Conte’s system.
Vitolo is a physical player, and he possesses good strength and power for a winger, which should allow him to adapt quickly to the Premier League. Tactically, he is very good and he has shown an ability to transition between systems under both Unai Emery and Jorge Sampaoli. Off the ball, he works hard for his team and this will be one of the main attractions to Conte.
