Leicester City progressed to the quarter-finals of the Champions League with a 2-0 victory in an enthralling encounter with Spanish side Sevilla on Tuesday evening, winning 3-2 on aggregate.
Sevilla went close inside the opening five minutes before Leicester City captain Wes Morgan gave his side an early advantage in the tie when he touched home Riyad Mahrez’s free-kick from close-range.
Sergio Escudero then rattled the crossbar with a superb second-half strike as Sevilla pushed, only for Leicester to go up the other end and double their advantage through Marc Albrighton’s low strike.
A compelling encounter then took another twist when Manchester City’s Samir Nasri, on loan at Sevilla, received a second booking for a heated exchange with Jamie Vardy, but Sevilla had a golden opportunity to send the tie to extra-time when Kasper Schmeichel brought down Vitolo in the area.
Yet Schmeichel – the reason Leicester were still in the tie coming into the second-leg – got down low to push away Steven N’Zonzi’s penalty to secure his side’s spot in the quarter-final stage.
Read on to see how Leicester City rated on an unforgettable evening at the King Power Stadium.
