Dele Alli; purchased from MK Dons, was promoted to the first team after spending 6 months on loan and MK Dons and has performed admirably in the midfield, first with Eric Dier and now with Moussa Dembélé.

However, none of these players are the real game changer for the club. The real difference in the team has been made by Toby Alderweireld. With his presence, the defence has considerably tightened and is now one of the best back-lines in the league. Purchasing the Belgian was one of Pochettino’s most astute decisions. Alderweireld; on loan from Atlético, was one of the stand-out players at Ronald Koeman’s Southampton last season. He led a defence which conceded only 33 goals throughout the entire campaign and ended with a goal difference of +21.

The current Spurs squad is young, athletic and experienced for their age. Alderweireld ably leads the defence, the midfield is bursting with the youthful exuberance of Dele Alli and a rejuvenated Moussa Dembélé. The break-through Golden Boot winner and youth product Harry Kane leads the attack. If Spurs can go on and purchase a couple of able back-ups to complement the first team, they will arguably be in with a shout at the top of the table considering the now predictable unpredictability of the league this year. Pochettino deserves a huge amount of credit for achieving such excellent squad development in such a short time.
