How England rated as they eased to victory over minnows Lithuania

Eric Dier – Used as a defensive midfielder/third centre-back to allow the wing-backs to advance forward, but he barely had a touch of the ball all game. Is a player who certainly doesn’t benefit from playing qualifiers against lesser nations. 5.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain – Rewarded for a string of impressive midfield performances for Arsenal lately with a starting spot, but he had a very quiet opening half and struggled to impose himself on the game. Didn’t do much to convince Gareth Southgate he’s worthy of a regular role. 5.

Raheem Sterling – Continued his impressive form at club level with a display full of attacking intent on Sunday. Looked lively from the start, making searching runs in between Lithuania’s tight defensive line and was more than happy to make direct runs on the ball. Mature performance. 7.

Dele Alli – Took him a while to fully get into the game due to Lithuania’s tight and narrow defensive strategy, struggling to produce the correct pass in the final third. Much more effective once gaps began to show in a tired defence but has had better days in an England shirt in the past. 6.

Adam Lallana – Drifted between flanks to try and inspire some creativity into England’s play but was one of a few players who took one too many touches with the ball at his feet. Created Vardy’s goal with a neat first-time pass, something the hosts needed to see more of from him on Sunday. 6.
