Liverpool changed their formation to a 4-4-2 diamond on Sunday and it worked excellently, with the side running out comfortable 4-0 winners against West Ham.
This victory goes a long way to confirming their top-four finish, with only a last day win over relegated Middlesbrough required.
It was a change of approach from Jurgen Klopp, who chose to play with both Divock Origi and Daniel Sturridge, and it was one that led to a hugely impressive performance.
Here are how their players rated on Sunday…
Simon Mignolet – The Belgian was good on Sunday and kept his fourth clean sheet in five matches. He made three saves during the match and looked assured in everything that he was asked to do. 7
Nathaniel Clyne – It was a solid performance from the right back, as he completed 92% of his passes and won three tackles. His distribution was good, but he could have been more inventive in the final third. 6
Joel Matip – The centre back came close to opening the scoring in the first half as he hit the crossbar from a header. Throughout the match he dominated in the air and was assured on the floor, completing four ball recoveries. 7
Dejan Lovren – He wasn’t as good as his defensive partner, but he played his part in another Liverpool clean sheet. The Croatian won four aerial duels and was comfortable in possession, starting several attacks from deep. 6
James Milner – It was a typically hard-working performance from the England international as he never stopped running for his team. He did well, without ever standing out. This season has been difficult for him as he has had to play out of position, but he can be proud of his contribution. 6
Gini Wijnaldum – The Dutchman contributed two assists during the match and was one of the most impressive players on Sunday. He completed two dribbles and two key passes, showing the threat that he posed in the final third. His first assist came as his shot cannoned back off the crossbar into the path of Philippe Coutinho, while the second was similar as his scuffed shot fell to Divock Origi. 7
Emre Can – He was dominant in the middle of the park, winning three aerial duels and completing four tackles. The change in role suited the German and his tenacity helped his side win as comfortably as they did. 7
Adam Lallana – Although he worked hard, he won’t be taking the headlines as he didn’t manage to contribute a goal or an assist. That said, he completed four key passes and grew into the match as it progressed. 6
Phillipe Coutinho – The Brazilian was magic on Sunday as he scored twice and contributed a further assist. The two goals showed his composure and confidence in the final third, but it was his assist that was most impressive as he played a perfectly weighted through ball to Daniel Strurridge. Six key passes was more than anyone else in the match. 9
Divock Origi – He got on the scoresheet with a nice instinctive finish and he could have scored more on another day. The one disappointment was when he chose to be selfish late on instead of passing to Daniel Sturridge who was in a better position. 7
Daniel Sturridge – He scored the first goal of the game, as he got in behind the West Ham defence and rounded the keeper before slotting home. It was a great piece of centre forward play and a reminder to the world of what he is capable of. 8
Lucas Leiva – He came on to help shore the defence up in the closing minutes. N/A
Ben Woodburn – The youngster can’t be rated as he wasn’t on the pitch long. N/A
Marko Grujic – The midfielder can’t be rated as he wasn’t on the pitch long. N/A
