It was not comfortable viewing for Chelsea fans in the first 25 minutes as West Ham kept the visitors trapped inside their own half, with long balls and crosses into the box keeping their back three busy and their midfield forced back to help. It only took one opportunity for Antonio Conte’s side to counter-attack and seconds later Eden Hazard was wheeling away with the ball in the back of the net. Diego Costa added a second early in the second half to really make sure and overcome a real test in their hopes for the title despite a late consolation strike from Manuel Lanzini.
Here are how the Chelsea players rated:
Thibaut Courtois – 7
Looked untroubled with everything that West Ham threw at him, with a number of crosses collected with ease. When required, he made some good saves and tipped a few efforts over the bar, despite West Ham not coming particularly close to finding the back of the net other than Lanzini’s late consolation effort.
