How can Everton’s relationship with Mino Raiola help in Gianluigi Donnarumma signature?

Everton are seemingly on the hunt for what would be one of the biggest transfer coups of the summer. With doubts over Jordan Pickford’s recent form, the Toffees are reportedly keen on AC Milan’s incredibly talented 21-year-old stopper Gianluigi Donnarumma.

That is according to a report from Gazzetta dello Sport, who claim the colossal 6ft 5ins keeper could leave Milan this summer, with his contract currently set to expire in 2021.

It is not the first time that the Italian has been linked with a move to Merseyside. In 2018, he quickly emerged as an alternative option to Alisson as Liverpool were struggling to negotiate a fee with the Brazilian’s club Roma.

But, as reported by Corriere dello Sport, a complicated relationship between Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp and Donnarumma’s agent Mino Raiola complicated the deal.

The pair were involved in a rather played out spat over Mario Balotelli’s Liverpool exit in 2016. In fact, as reported by The Independent, Raiola called the German boss ‘a piece of s**t’.

No such problem should emerge for Everton. The Toffees have a very good working relationship with Raiola. He took several top talents to and from PSV Eindhoven during Marcel Brands’ spell at the club and is also well acquainted with chairman Farhad Moshiri. He even has a good working relationship with Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti.

Such a relationship was undoubtedly a massive help in Everton’s ability to bringing another client, Moise Kean, to Finch Farm in the summer.

So Everton clearly have a big advantage in their ambitious pursuit of Donnarumma this summer, and it is a man who clearly doesn’t have the fondest of feelings toward the club’s nearest rivals.
