Xabi Alonso – The former Liverpool midfielder was excellent on the eye, as he dictated the tempo from deep. He is excellent at launching attacks from in front of the back four and he underlined that by completing 100 passes during the match. 8
Arturo Vidal – He meshed impressively with Xabi Alonso at the heart of the midfield and prevented Arsenal’s midfielders from getting into the game. The Chilean is a complete midfielder and he showed that on Wednesday night. During the match, he attempted four shots, completed 94% of his passes and made seven ball retrievals. An excellent day at the office for the 29-year-old. 7
Arjen Robben – The Dutchman was his usual self and caused countless problems down Munich’s right-hand side. Kieran Gibbs was given the opportunity at left back for Arsenal, but he struggled to contain Robben. Munich’s number ten opened the scoring with a sumptuous drive from distance. 7
Thiago Alcantara – It was an unusual role for the Spaniard as he operated at number ten, being preferred to Thomas Muller, but Carlo Ancelotti’s faith was repaid. He was excellent at linking the midfield with the attack with some incredible passing. Furthermore, he contributed two goals and an assist. This could be the beginning of Thiago establishing himself as one of the world’s best. 9
