Brendan Rodgers has given a positive update on Cameron Carter-Vickers’ injury status as Celtic lose for the first time this season.

The American defender was left out of today’s matchday squad against Kilmarnock after being taken off midweek amid fears that he may have hurt his hamstring in the 4-1 win over Hibs.

However, the Celtic manager delivered a positive update on Carter-Vickers prior to kick-off today and after watching his defence struggle against Derek McInnes’ men, Rodgers will be desperate to get the 25-year-old back in the side for the final Champions League fixture against Feyenoord on Wednesday night.

Rodgers said [Sky Sports], “To be fair. It was [the scan], it was pretty clear but he’s just felt a bit of stiffness around it so we don’t want to force it.

“He’s obviously played a lot of games since he’s come back from injury. Hopefully, Cam will be available come midweek.”

The Celtic defence just looks like a shadow of their former selves whenever Carter-Vickers is missing from the heart of the defence.

Even today, when they were comfortable in the first half, Nat Phillips looks so short of pace and match sharpness it leaves you wondering just how bad Maik Nawrocki and Gustaf Lagerbielke must be not to get in ahead of him.

Despite today’s result, Celtic still sit five points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership but, clearly, there is still a lot of work for Brendan Rodgers to do in the transfer market to strengthen this team not only for Europe but domestically as well.

Next up for Celtic is Feyenoord on Wednesday night and after today’s showing, the Celtic fans will be praying Cameron Carter-Vickers will be fit enough to face the Dutch side as, going by Nat Phillip’s showing today, it is clear the on-loan Liverpool man is simply not good enough.
