'Hopeful': Sky reporter has important fitness update to tell Arsenal fans ahead of North London derby
Sky Sports reporter Rob Wotton said that there is cautious optimism about whether the anchorman can play in the north London derby.
Partey picked up an injury blow on Ghana duty, which ruled him out of the clash against Brazil at the last minute.
He has had another season plagued by fitness problems to far but it seems that the latest one is by no means guaranteed to rule him out of the derby.
Arsenal hope Partey will be fit to face Tottenham
“Arsenal are hopeful Thomas Partey will be fit in time for the north London derby on Saturday lunchtime,” said the reporter.
“Partey is back at Arsenal after leaving the Ghana squad after picking up a minor knee injury in the warm up shortly before their friendly against Brazil.
“Partey was initially in the starting lineup but informed the coaching staff of some discomfort.”
Partey is an important part of Arsenal’s midfield and they do not really have a like-for-like replacement for the Ghanaian.
That makes his persistent fitness issues even more of a concern, and the Gunners tried to sign Douglas Luiz on transfer deadline day but to no avail.
In December 2020, Partey was rushed back from injury for a derby clash at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and limped off during the move which led to Harry Kane making it 2-0.
That will be in Arteta’s mind when it comes to making a decision on whether to play the midfielder at the weekend or give him more time to recover.
