For the second successive summer, Dean Smith wants to sign Ezri Konsa. Last summer, Konsa joined Smith at Brentford and now he could be joining Aston Villa.
According to The Daily Mail, Smith wants Konsa to complete his defensive ranks. Aston Villa have already signed Kortney Hause and Tyrone Mings this summer but they also want Konsa.
He would become the fourth central defender in Aston Villa’s squad, along with James Chester. Konsa is an exciting youngster rated at £12m (Sky Sports News) due to a release clause.
The 21-year-old played nearly 50 games for Brentford last summer after completing a move from Charlton Athletic. He had previously played just under 90 senior games for the Addicks.
Operating predominantly as a centre-back, Konsa can also play in midfield or as a right-back. This versatility makes the England U21 starlet a useful acquisition if Smith can win the race.
Aston Villa fans were delighted when the club resigned Hause and Mings. And it does not look like a third loan star – Axel Tuanzebe – will be returning so Konsa has been targeted instead.
Here are some tweets from Villa supporters discussing the Konsa links.
