A number of Celtic fans have hailed Hatem Abd Elhamed’s display for Israel against Scotland on Thursday night, noting how well he did at left-back – a position the Hoops have had some issues with.

To date, Greg Taylor has been getting the lion’s share of game time at left wing-back for Celtic this term, but some of his performances have yielded criticism from sections of the Bhoys fanbase.

On deadline day, Celtic succeeded in bringing Uruguay international Diego Laxalt to Parkhead on a season-long loan from AC Milan, a deal which sees that tricky position strengthened.

However, Hoops fans watching Scotland in action against Israel in their Euro 2020 playoff semi-final saw Elhamed named at left-back and putting in a great performance to boot.

So, while Lennon is likely to deploy Laxalt as first choice at left-back / left wing-back from now on, the £1.6million man already on Celtic’s books could be a great alternative.

Here is what some Celtic fans were saying on social media:

Celtic are next in action on Saturday 17 October, with Parkhead playing host to Glasgow rivals Rangers in the Premiership.
