Cardiff City are keen on bringing Crystal Palace forgotten man Jordon Mutch back to the club to boost their Premier League survival bid, according to the Sun.
The 27-year-old has returned from a loan spell with Vancouver Whitecaps and Roy Hodgson has shown no real willingness to reintegrate the midfielder into the Eagles’ fold.
Neil Warnock has made it clear he will not spend huge money to keep the Bluebirds in the top flight and has spotted a cut-price opportunity to bolster his ranks by engineering Mutch’s return to Wales.
Mutch has not played for Palace since January 2017 and it would be little surprise if Hodgson did allow him to leave; but doing so would be the wrong decision.
At 27, Mutch is still of a good enough age to turn his Selhurst Park career around and his eye for goal could offer Palace a slightly different option from midfield.
Further, Palace are embroiled in a relegation scrap with Cardiff and it doesn’t make much sense to allow a relegation rival to improve on the cheap.
Hodgson is stubborn and will no doubt stick by his guns but letting a player who can perform in the top flight join a side Palace are in close competition with – midway through the season – is a risk.
