Tottenham Hotspur made it seven points from three Premier League games following their 1-0 win over Wolves in Saturday’s lunchtime kickoff.

Spurs were looking to follow up their win against Southampton and draw at Chelsea with another positive result.

Meanwhile, Wolves were hoping to get their first victory of the season on board, after a loss and a draw.

Tottenham struggled to make inroads for much of the game, with just one effort of note in the first half.

Late on in the opening period, Ivan Perisic hoisted a cross into the box for Harry Kane, but Jose Sa was equal to it.

Tottenham had just one effort in the first half, while Wolves had 12 chances.

However, Spurs picked up the pace after the interval and eventually broke the deadlock.

In the 64th minute, Son Heung-min’s corner was flicked on by Perisic and Harry Kane headed home.

It was Tottenham’s 1,000th home Premier League goal and Kane’s 250th goal for Spurs.

In addition, it was Kane’s 185th Premier League goal – the most a player has scored for one team in the competition.

It proved the winner, with Tottenham picking up another three points for a total of seven from their opening three games.

It was a mixed display from the Spurs’ players, though a few did do well.

Eric Dier was one of those, delivering a solid display to help keep a clean sheet.

“Increasingly reliable”

Several media outlets waxed lyrical about the £4million man’s performance at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

London World wrote: “Dier is the glue that binds the Tottenham defence, barely put a foot wrong all game. Solid and progressive.”

Meanwhile, football.london said: “Not one of his most dominant displays but he still dealt with plenty that came his way.”

The Evening Standard wrote: “Made some timely interventions in the heart of the back three and played well, particularly considering Cristian Romero’s absence. Increasingly reliable.

Finally, TheHardTackle said: “Dier was the player to watch in our preview, and he guided Sanchez smartly from the central spot.

“The English international kept Tottenham organised at the back, ensuring Wolves never bothered Lloris despite being the better of the two sides in the first half.

“Dier’s output on the ball was also solid, and his stock continues to rise with every performance.”

All four outlets gave Dier a 7 out of 10 for his display against Wolves.
