'His family are on Merseyside': Everton urged to check out 'fantastic' up-and-coming manager

Everton are currently on the lookout for a new manager following Carlo Ancelotti’s shock departure.

The 61-year-old left Goodison Park earlier this week to link up with former club Real Madrid.

The Toffees have just finished a Premier League campaign that promised a lot but delivered very little.

Nonetheless, there was optimism about next season, with world-renowned manager Ancelotti continuing to build a high-quality team.

Celtic strike Premier Sports deal - is this the "additional value" we've been waiting for?

That’s no longer the case, and Everton are back to square one looking for a new manager to take the Blues reins.

The Athletic claims that Everton board members drew up an initial longlist of potential candidates on Tuesday.

This list apparently featured Rangers manager and Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard.

Rangers appointed Gerrard in May 2018 and he has done a superb job at Ibrox.

The Light Blues were relentless last season, cruising to their 55th Scottish Premiership title without a single defeat.

And talkSPORT pundit Danny Mills reckons Everton should move for the Reds icon.

“I think they have to consider him,” he said. “Whether he would take it, is another matter.

“He’s done a fantastic job at Rangers. He’s an up-and-coming manager.

“His family are on Merseyside and I believe a lot of his coaches are Merseyside based.

“I think it would be a fantastic opportunity if he was offered to go to a club that is on the rise.

“Stranger things have happened in football and I’m sure Gerrard will look at it as a great opportunity if he was offered.”

Gerrard has finally ended Rangers’ wait for a 55th league trophy after a decade.

The way the Ibrox side has completely steamrollered Scotland’s top division will go down in Gers folklore.

Ancelotti’s departure from Everton could well present Gerrard with an opportunity to return to Merseyside.

However, Rangers have just enjoyed a superb campaign and will be in the Champions League qualifiers next season.

There’s still a lot for Gerrard to achieve at Ibrox so he’d have a hard decision to make.
