‘High-quality’: Rodrigo Bentancur impressed by two Tottenham players who Antonio Conte has never picked this season

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur says he’s been impressed by Harvey White and Pape Matar Sarr – two players who Antonio Conte has never picked this season.

Sarr completed a switch to Spurs from FC Metz last summer and spent the last campaign on loan at the French outfit.

White has come through the ranks in north London and spent time on loan at Portsmouth during the 2020-21 campaign.

Both players have been part of the first-team set-up at Spurs this season but are yet to play a single minute for the club during the current campaign.

But it seems the young midfielders have impressed Bentancur in training at Hotspur Way.

Betnancur spoke in Tottenham’s official matchday programme about his fellow midfielders at the club.

“We get on really well. As I said before, the players have all welcomed me really well, and Pierre [Hojbjerg] has been fantastic with me too,” he said.

“He’s a great guy, and we share some of the same interests off the pitch – he drinks maté (South American caffeine drink), like me. So before the bus leaves, we often meet at the training ground to share a maté together. And on the pitch, it feels very natural to work with him.

“The same goes for [Oliver] Skipp and [Yves] Bissouma, who has been great since he arrived. He’s settled into the group really well. There’s White too, and Sarr – we’ve got a really good group of high-quality midfielders. Hopefully, we can keep moving in the right direction together.” as transcribed by Football.London.

Bentancur has been a mainstay in Conte’s midfield ever since making the switch from Juventus back in January.

The Italian boss boasts a host of options in central midfield so it’s difficult to see White or Sarr getting a taste of first-team action anytime soon.

But it’s great to hear that the duo are making an impression on their teammates in training.

It’s likely that the pair will probably have to seek out a loan move in January in order to gain some valuable first-team experience.
