Who should Spurs target this summer?
Whether it’s Tim Sherwood, Louis van Gaal or Mauricio Pochettino, whoever finds themselves in charge at White Hart Lane next season could do with some help. We think these five players could make the difference for Spurs – what do you think?
Often derided for being boring, there’s no denying the footballing ability of Manchester City’s James Milner. Underrated and underused at the Etihad, Milner would represent an excellent, value-for-money signing. Glamorous he isn’t, the former Leeds man is however technical, reliable, consistent and relentless. He can cross, has Duracell battery like stamina and has a maturity rarely seen. With the inconsistent Aaron Lennon, Spurs could have a space free.
Swansea striker, Wilfried Bony would slot into Spurs’ front-line with ease. Strong and quick, the Ivorian monster’s Drogba-esque style suits the Premier League down to a tee. Whether it’s a bullet header at the Emirates or a 30-yard screamer, Bony would be the missing piece in a puzzle Spurs have yet to conquer.
Spurs could really reinvigorate their striking options by signing Manchester United’s?Danny Welbeck. The twenty-three year old is reportedly unhappy at Old Trafford and is considering a move with regular football hard to come by. An excellent finisher, the England international would be the perfect foil for a big target man.
Agile, pacey and quick-witted, Ukrainian winger Yevhen Konoplyanka would cause havoc in the Premier League. He loves to cut inside and let rip with a powerful, accurate shot and is a specialist in leaving opposition defenders on their backsides. Still only 24 years-old, the 36 capped international would be a perfect fit for Spurs.
Real Madrid left-back Fabio Coentrao could arrive at White Hart Lane with a move away from the Bernabeu likely. Stuck behind Marcelo in the pecking order, Spurs would be well placed to secure his services with question marks over Danny Roses’ longevity. Quick going forward but defensively sound, the Portuguese international would welcome regular first team football.
